My family creates our own Thanksgiving traditions not simply because my mom dislikes turkey, mashed potatoes, and apple pie. The American holiday is about gratitude and we’re annually happy for all good Vietnamese food we have to enjoy. This year, we celebrated early to avoid traffic.
Oh my. That is so strange. If you shop at a Chinese, Korean or Vietnamese market, try buying them there. They may be fresher. I have seen them at Costco this past week, too. Maybe Trader Joe's as well but I my memory is a bit fuzzy on that.
Your mom is a dynamo! I imagine it makes her very happy to cook much loved and appreciated food for her family. I work during the next Zoom. May I ask questions in advance? Thank you for the link to the spicy nuts. I think that was from before I subscribed, and I appreciate seeing the recipe tweak notations. About to leave for work for the busiest day of the year...
Great description of Mom. She is a dynamo. Sometimes frighteningly so. LOL.
Sorry that you have to work when we do the Zoom. Of course, send me your question and I'm happy to answer it. Thanks for suggesting that. I'll add a note about that when I remind folks next week.
Hope your day goes relatively smoothly. Holiday retail can be scary.
I will try other markets! At the usual ones, the persimmons were rock hard.
I can’t find persimmons except rock hard ones that rot before they ripen!!!

Trader Joe’s is selling persimmons, we’ve bought some but haven’t tried them yet.
