I very much enjoyed reading about your New Orleans adventure. It brought back many wonderful memories of a trip my husband I had with my brother and his wife many years ago. Of course we ate our way through the city. My brother recently passed away, so this lovely memory was of a wonder time of sharing we had. I have read your cookbooks & enjoy your blog I’m in my 80s now, so cooking is more work than I can manage on some days. We’ve been to Viet Nam many years ago & enjoyed all the great food & traditions there. We are always on the lookout for a good Vietnamese restaurant. If you have any you can share, I’d appreciate it we live in San Jose Ann

Ann and Rich -- The City of New Orleans is a wonderment. There's nothing else like it in America. The people I met gave me lots to chew on. It's great to know that your visit long ago left such an impression.

Thank you for reading and cooking. I hope that then I'm in my 80s I'll still be online and active as you are. Cooking can be a chore. Even my mom, 88, wants a break from time to time! I have not been to many Viet spots in San Jose lately to suggest but will keep an eye out for them.

Yes, crawfish!! Great update…yet again I’m reminded of how small the world is. Chef Anh Luu is my old housemate’s cousin who I’ve followed since her Portland days.

You’ve got to be kidding me! But you’re not. That’s incredible. You and I and Anh Luu. She’s a wonderful person and chef. Love this, Mandy!!!

There is a wonderful restaurant in Washington, D.C. called Moon Rabbit. The Intercontinental Hotel executive chef is Kevin Tien. Tien, a first generation son of Vietnamese parents, spent his formative years in Louisiana and has incorporated Louisianan and Cajun touches (think coconut cornbread with lime, Kombu ceviche with tom kha vinaigrette, semolina fried catfish with fermented napa cabbage) into his menu at Moon Rabbit. Moon Rabbit is terrific stop if you're in DC.
