I was so inspired to read that this year is supposed to bring in Transformation, evolution and precision. I wrote those three words at the top of my notebook today, and I have loved learning more about Lunar New Year traditions from you and so many other friends all week. I was sick yesterday, but I plan to integrate and celebrate these important traditions with my kids and friends next year. Happy New Year, Andrea!

Sarah, talk about inspiration. A notebook to log thoughts into and keep you grounded. You've inspired me with that notion, lady!

Sorry to hear you were ill yesterday. I hope you're feeling whole again sooner than later!

We had a lovely lunch of dumplings! I enjoyed seeing the video of Vietnam, I recognized the location, we spent 3 weeks there in the Spring of 2024.

What a fantastic way to welcome the New Year. And it's awesome that you recognized the spot in Saigon. I'll pass it on to Mike! Cheers!

I made the mistake of vacuuming. Now my luck probably got sucked away! I made black bean spareribs, which were scrumptious. Speaking of shedding snakeskin, I found an entire snakeskin in my wire gardening basket recently. Kind of scared me at first!

You made me crack up big time, Maia! I don't think luck got sucked away. Yay for black bean spareribs, a dish I don't often enough! Thanks for the reminder.

So, a snake decided to shed its skin in your wire gardening basket? That's kinda cool! What did you do with the snake skin? Was it big?

It was about 18” long. I shrieked thinking it was an actual snake at first. Then I made my husband dispose of it!

very Happy New Year! I was told - "Golden snakes herald happiness.

This snake year can be a year of transformation, starting anew. This is the time to leave the troubles and worries behind as if shedding the old skin and slithering away. "

I like this shedding skin business. It's like a grand exfoliation of all pesky things. LOVE IT.

May that be our mantra for 2025. Thank you!

Happy New Year! I didn’t celebrate yesterday, but I did wear red to work (my snake necklace was too impractical for work). I was kind of surprised that I didn’t see one customer or crew in red, but I did help one young woman towards the end of my shift who was buying goodies to round out her dinner of roasted duck and fried fish. Tonight I’m making garlic noodles, with new frozen shiitake mushrooms from TJ.

Happy New Year! Wishing you and your family all the best! thank you for sharing your traditions with us. I remember when I lived in San Francisco, the little Viet sandwich shop I used to go to (they had great cha gio with rice noodles super cheap!), would shut down for three days and the Chinatowns would be all decked out in red and gold--so festive and happy.

Happy Lunar New Year to you, Marion! I used to slowly taper down around LNY and be low key for the New Year. It was really nice. This year was little rough but I hope to get back into that groove in 2026. Of course... seeing all the decor gets you jolly and excited for new things to rush in for the New Year. Optimism and community are what we need these days!
