To add to the Indonesian cookbooks list, Lara Lee’s mentor was Sri Owen, the doyenne of Indonesian cooking in Britain, and her book was just re-released! https://www.kitchenartsandletters.com/products/sri-owens-indonesian-food

I didn’t know about this! Thanks for the backstory and linking to the book at KAL (one of my favorite bookshops).

Thanks for the shout-out, Andrea. And just FYI, another excellent resource for menopause (and peri-menopause) issues is Dr Jen Gunter, who writes the Substack The Vagenda. xo

You deserve the spotlight, Valerie! Yes to Jen and the Vagenda, too.

There's a new updated edition of Sri Owen's 'Indonesian Food'.

My old copy got lost during one of my too many house (and country) moves, so I bought this new edition.

I haven't read it cover to cover (yet) but it looks as solid as the original.

S.O. also mentions alternative ingredients quite often, which is very useful for all of us who can't buy all the authentic ingredients.

It's not a cheap book but well worth it - though you could do far worse than trying to source a secondhand version of the original!
