I made a dinner from your tofu book years ago and she was so delighted I gave her the book😊. She promises that we will meet someday, I will be so delighted!!!
BTW -- I heard that Grocery Outlet in the Monterey Bay, CA, area has Fly By Jing’s chili crisp for around $7. I don’t know if that deal is elsewhere.
Trader Joe’s sells some kind of crisp too. Regular supermarkets sometimes carry chili crisp by Lao Gan Ma (the company that kinda seeded the craze in the US).
Will try both these recipes this week, thank you for including your thought process on making them, both helpful and interesting. And yes, these are the days when we need recipes with less work, bigger impact, so thank you!
Best, Kirstin ( a private chef who has dog-eared all your books).
Oooh, I can't wait to try both these recipes. They sound doable and delicious! I totally get that whole spent and wrung out feeling, especially with the dark winter. I'm feeling behind in getting ready for the holidays. Hopefully this week I can catch up and make these recipes too. Thanks for sharing them!
Try using more of the chili crisp. I used what was labeled “extra spicy” by Fly by Jing. Or, back off the confectioner’s sugar to allow the crisp to show itself more.
I’m so happy that we’re in the same boat, Daisy! It’s good to publicly say that Winter is tough, that life is tough. But the days pass with some ease if you’ve got some fun nibbles on hand!
I made the Chili Crisp Candied Nuts the evening of Winter Solstice and they were delicious and definitely helped make the evening brighter. My whole family liked them and now I'm trying to figure out how to make them just a bit hotter. I used a ceramic pie plate and a Danish whisk to mix the nuts with the chili crisp and it worked great. Thanks, Andrea for such an easy recipe that is great for the holiday snack table. I plan to make another batch for Christmas Day.
We do!!

Happy happy holidays to you as well.

Kirstin! Out of winter’smelancholy comes joy.
I think that you and I share a friend in Chan Luu! Happy holidays to you.
