Online Class Clarification + EGV Sale + Restaurant-style Lemongrass Pork Recipe
Hello everyone,
Big cheers and WELCOME to a bunch of new subscribers. It’s wonderful that you’re all here. I am extra grateful to those of you who have chosen to support PTFS as paid subscribers. It’s a good time to do a switcheroo upgrade.
Just a very short note today because you’ve heard from me lots this week and it’s summer! You should be chillaxin’. On my end, we’re celebrating my mom’s 90th birthday weekend. There’s lots going on.
Online Class Follow-Up
Lordy, I’m overwhelmed by the positive response since last Tuesday’s launch. I really had no idea how this online class thing would go. A few of you signed up for all three classes. Kowabunga!
Some good questions arose in post comments regarding access to video playbacks and tech set-up for Zoom.
If you cannot attend the online class session, you can watch the recording and have access for a long time. You can watch and rewatch my hand moves at your leisure. If you do attend the livestream class, you’ll have the same access too!
If you have further questions about the classes, never hesitate to email or add a comment.
Regarding the discounts, the 15% launch discount ends tonight at midnight PST. At check out, apply the code: launch15
Paid subscribers — don’t forget your 20% discount. I refined the information sent to you last week to lessen potential confusion.
Online cooking class details were in last Tuesday’s dispatch but you may also check them out and sign up on Eventbrite:
Sun., 8/18, 2-4pm PST: Imperial Roll Feast (aka Chả Giò House Party!)
Sun., 9/15, 2-4pm PST: Viet Street Food + Dim Sum Made Easy (aka Bánh Cuốn + Cheung Fun Blowout!)
Sun., 9/29, 2-4pm PST: Wontons and Siu Mai for All (spread dumpling joy!)
For detailed class descriptions and to buy tickets, click on the individual class titles.
Thanks so much everyone for being interested in these cooking classes. I hope they suit your culinary interests.
We’re gonna have a blast!
EGV Summer Sale
Speaking of sales, I just saw that Ever-Green Vietnamese is priced at 40% off on Amazon. Whoa! That means you can get a copy (or two) for less than a plate of pasta! I don’t know how long the $20.99 price lasts but want to flag the deal for you.
As an author, I do not care where you buy my books. Shop a local independent bookshop or online. Check them out at the library. It’s always up to you.
And, if you enjoy Ever-Green Vietnamese, please leave a positive comment at Amazon. Cooks and readers check those reviews for feedback, whether they purchase there or elsewhere! Thanks to the many people who’ve already written reviews for EGV.
Grilled Lemongrass Pork Steaks
I recently test drove my recipe for Vietnamese restaurant-style lemongrass pork (thit heo nuong xa). The 15-year-old recipe is housed at Viet World Kitchen, and I assumed that I’d want to change it lots, but nope, it’s still easy and excellent.
I was happily surprised that the recipe has stood up to the test of time. I worry that I wasn’t as good of a recipe developer then as I am now. Age and experience makes you better right? Yes and no.
So, I updated the post to better highlight why the recipe works, and now, you can print out the recipe too. I also made a casual video to walk you through the process.
The pork is fabulous with rice, in banh mi, atop rice noodles, in rice paper rolls or in lettuce wraps. Get the recipe! It’s perfect for outdoor or indoor grilling (use a stovetop cast iron grill pan; oops, I didn’t mention that in the recipe but now you know!)
I’ve been polishing my website so it looks and and functions better. It’s slow progress but VWK needs a tune up now and then.
Rock on, friends!
I signed up for the dumpling class. It’s the favorite thing I make at home. And please wish your mom a happy 90’th birthday. My mother is 84 and a force of nature.
Happy Birthday to your lovely mother. What would be a typical Viet birthday celebration?
