We have been going to Kingston for the last 30 years but never stopped by the beautiful "Chop Suey" sign. Why? Not sure. Three years ago, for some reason, we decided to give it a shot… we had been missing so much the past 30 years! Eng is a gem, and Tom and Fay are amazing. Please do not miss it if you want to find the Chinese food of your childhood. Thank you for sharing.
OMG! Eng's was where I first experienced Chinese food. I grew up in Kingston in the 60's, and my parents would get takeout for us kids when they went out to dinner, since they weren't about to try Chinese food. It was so much better than the canned and frozen LaChoy (?) from the supermarket. I had not realized they had started back in the 1920's.
That is incredible to know! What a long history you had with Eng’s. I didn’t think any PTFS folks would be familiar with the restaurant. You’re the third person. Thank you!
Funny, I pass Engs every day, as I live in the country outside Kingston. I, too, was attracted to the retro signage but never wandered in, fearing the meh or so many anglicized chinese restaurants. Now, post-Beard, it's a local celebrity. Might have missed our window for quiet, regular fun, but am curious about its range. Pupu platters? Will need to bring the kids when they are in town for some sampling. TY for the prompt.
I love a well executed pupu platter because it’s fun. There’s a house special section of the menu that looks good to me! Look forward to your feedback.
I’m sorry to hear sleep has been difficult. I got a new memory foam pillow for the first time right around the time change. I wasn’t sure if I needed it because I don’t have any neck pain or discomfort, but my husband got one and really loved it. I’m sleeping a little better now and can’t imagine not having it. I work 10-6 and absolutely love putting on my sunglasses for the drive home.
I read all of your Combi research, it was a lot! I don’t think it’s the appliance for me, but I appreciate all of the info. What interests me is a dehydrator, for making Lao jerky and backpacking foods.
With the current heat wave it’s a good time to change bedding in Cali! 😆 I love memory foam pillows and have a mini one that I pack for travel. It’s saved me sleeping on weird pillows away from home and being cranky.
The Combi is a funny appliance that does a heck of a lot for the price. The lowest temp on air fry mode is 300F. And on the warm mode, it goes to 170F.
Instant Pot has an air fryer/roaster and dehydrator. If you don’t dehydrate a lot of stuff then something like that would work.

Fantastic to get your first-hand, on-the-ground validation of Eng’s. Thank you so much for commenting. You made my day!
It takes me a couple of weeks to get used to daylight savings time 😵💫
Lordy, we are approaching the 2 week mark finallllly!
😆
